Vocational Education

VIDA’s Voc/Ed Department addresses the need of a bilingual (English/Spanish) multicultural community to empower the participants towards self actualization and growth.

Vocational/Educational Services offered at Vida Family Services include:

  • Individual Assessment
  • TABE – English & Spanish (Test Adult Basic Education)
  • Referral ESL (English as a second Language) Class
  • Computer Classes
  • Pre-Vocational Group/Job Readiness Group
  • Job Placement/Referrals
  • Individual Session
  • Post-Employment

OVERVIEW OF SERVICES

  • Initial Assessment: To obtain a brief educational and work history, in order to help establish his/her realistic goals.
  • TABE: Reading and Math Test to determine appropriate placement. (I.e. Pre GED/GED)
  • Our Voc/Ed Department will provide information on referral to ESL: that offer ESL classes for those wishing to improve their written and oral English.
  • Computer Classes: Microsoft Word, Windows 98, Excel, Power Point, spreadsheet, Reading, Math, Typing and Resume Writing Classes are free.
  • Pre-Vocational Group/Job Readiness: Prepares individuals to explore his/her strengths and limitations which will help s/he to enter or re-enter the “world of work”. Individuals will develop job adjustment and independent living skills.
  • Job Placement/Referrals: Assistance will be provided to individuals for Part Time or Full Time Jobs or Training.
  • Individual Sessions: Individual meets with Counselor to address any any issues of concern he/she may have.
  • Post Employment Group: Provides assistance on how to maintain a job. Individuals will discuss job related issues (i.e. personality problems, drugs on the job, coping with a difficult boss).
